Hello! We have about a dozen more student tickets left for the screening on Friday! Remember, ticket sales are open to all of RIT now, so stop on by to the School of Print Media office by Friday at Noon to reserve your ticket. Also, thanks to Frank Piacitelli from AIGA for correcting me on available public tickets. AIGA still has a few public tickets available for AIGA members. Please contact Marjorie Crum in order to find out how to get yours.
Also, just some info on parking for the event: parking is available in E and F lots (and G and H if you want to park really far away). RIT’s policy states that all parking spots are fair game from 5pm on, so you can park in reserved, short term, visitor, and admin parking. Handicap parking is available at the very top of E lot. If you’re unfamiliar with RIT, just walk up to the breezeway opening and follow the signs that will lead you to Webb Auditorium. Please make sure you have your ticket!
We’ve got a ton of cool stuff lined up for Friday. It’s going to be amazing. We’re psyched! More to come as it comes.

We are happy and we also regret to inform everyone that public tickets are now sold out at both Nook and Thread, and from what we’ve been hearing, they’re also sold out through AIGA. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. For those who didn’t get the chance, we’re sorry we can’t offer more! However, for those of you current RIT students who still don’t have tickets, you still have a chance! There are a few tickets still available to CIAS students this week, which will be opened up to the rest of the RIT community through next week.
We’ve got some very, VERY cool stuff planned for this event. It’s going to be a great time. Stay tuned for more…

Sorry for not announcing the panelists when expected. I’ve personally had a crazy week, so I didn’t catch a break to update anything. Anyway, here are the panelists that will be featured in the Q&A after the Helvetica screening:
Host: Erich Lehman - School of Print Media Prepress Facilities Coordinator (and all around cool dude who loves type).
Panelists:
Gary Hustwit - Director of “Helvetica”
Charles Bigelow - School of Print Media Cary Professor
Ryan Clifford - School of Design Professor
Heinz Klinkon - School of Design Professor
It’s going to be a very cool time, indeed. Remember that limited ticket sales for Helvetica are now over, and they will be open to all of CIAS starting Monday. Tickets can now be reserved only at the School of Print Media office right around the corner of the main entrance of the Gannett building (7B).

There are some very cool type-related things going on at RIT besides the screening of Helvetica on May 11. As previously mentioned (or at least posted in our links page), the RIT screening of Helvetica is being tauted as part of the Western New York Typo Fest, sponsored by P22 type foundry. This event includes another screening of Helvetica in Buffalo, along with a studio tour, and some events at RIT’s own Cary Graphic Arts Library/Press.
If you go to RIT, you may have seen these awesome “Zapf?” posters hanging around the hallways. As it turns out, Hermann Zapf, the legendary type designer of Optima, Palatino, and Zapfino (and one of the interviewees in Helvetica) will be making an appearance at RIT the same day of the Helvetica screening! Zapf actually did some of the drawings which are going to featured in the new addition to the Cary Graphic Arts Press, and has also just released a new, limited edition book entitled “Alphabet Stories.”
On May 11, from 3pm to 7pm, Hermann Zapf will be doing a meet-and-greet in regards to Cary and the release of his book on the second floor of the Wallace Library at the Cary Collection. Make sure you go check it out before going to see the movie! If you need more information, you can contact Amelia Hugill-Fontanel by email or at 585.475.6766.
In other Helvetica news, first-week ticket sales are going very well. Panel discussion members will be announced tomorrow! Yay! Once again, sorry for the delay on that.

Good news! Ticket sales for School of Print Media and School of Design students and faculty open up today in their respective offices! Public sales also open up today at Nook and Thread, as well as for AIGA members. Please check out the INFO page for all the detailed ticket information. Also, please remember that we have a limited amount of tickets and are only offering one ticket per person for students, faculty, AIGA, and the public. If you have any questions on any of those issues, please contact us.
Also, we will be announcing the panel for the Q&A/discussion early this week sometimes. We’re still trying to iron out all the details. Once again, sorry for the delay. It will be well worth the wait.
Finally, some have inquired about accessibility for the deaf/hard-of-hearing for this screening. We are waiting to hear back from the production coordinator on whether the movie is already captioned. If not, we will be requesting interpreters for the film, as well as for the panel discussion. Have no fear!
More updates to follow…

I was browsing through some stuff tonight and caught a few posts on the Art House website about the “Helvetica,” screening at RIT. Thanks :]. I didn’t actually realize that Art House had a website, but it’s actually very well-designed and just very cool in general. Go check it out when you get the chance.
Also, we are ironing out the final details about the panelists for our post-screening Q&A/discussion, so expect an announcement very shortly. We just want to make sure everything’s squared away before making anything official. Thanks for your patience.

Just for your information, all of the pages have finally been created, as well as updated so you won’t have any broken links. Please refer to the nav at the top of the page to get around. If there are any glaring errors or any other types of problems, please feel free to email me. We’ll try to keep this as up-to-date as possible.
Also, there is now ticket information posted. However, I don’t have the exact ticket information for public tickets from Cristina quite yet. It will be up as soon as possible, though, so please check back. Remember, tickets will be in limited quantity, so when they go on sale, you’re going to have to grab them pretty fast.
I think that’s about it. As I said, this site will be updated as new information arises, so please check back frequently. Thanks a lot.

Hi! Welcome to the website for the screening of “Helvetica: The Film,” at the Rochester Institute of Technology on May 11, 2007. My name is Bryan Yeager, one of the coordinators for bringing this awesome film to RIT. Sorry that there’s not much up right now, but we’re in the process of completing the website. Right now, none of the links up at the top work, so please bear with us while we complete everything. We should have all of the confirmed info up in the next few days.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or the other coordinator, Cristina Stoll. There will be more info to come shortly. In the meantime, please visit the official Helvetica film website.
